An artwork is often an artist’s subjective expression of their context. The ideology of artists, their perceptions of their contexts and the materials available to them play a significant role in the creation of their artworks. His father, Ai Qing was a renowned modern poet in China. In 1958, Ai Qing was accused of being anti-communist, forbidden to write, and exiled to Xinjiang province, where Weiwei spent his youth. In this interpretation, the actual image of sunflower seeds represents his childhood experience of growing up in a farming area where sunflower seeds were in abundance, whilst also reflecting on the injustice the fascist government did to his father’s freedom. The work is also considered a direct allusion to the demagogic principles of the former ruler of China, Mao Zedong. Chairman Mao is the sun, and his loyal followers are the sunflowers surrounding him; this is a metaphor for the unwavering obedience of almost all of the Chinese population under the rein of the communist leader. The seeds served as a symbol of Mao’s godlike power to render the world fertile, a theme that was often illustrated in his countless political portraits. This sunflower motif originated from a popular propaganda poster, which Weiwei exploits to remind his Chinese audience of the cycle of political bias that has ruled their country for decades. Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is an excellent example of distortion as a literary device. The story is set up as a fable using a third person objective viewpoint and personification of animals to represent historical figures and stereotypes. Distortion can also be found in much of the symbolism throughout the novel. Similar to a fable, Animal Farm makes use of personification. In the story, farm animals are used to represent different classes of people, from the average working man to government officials and police or military personnel. This element of the novel goes deeper, when the pigs on the farm begin to resemble historical figures such as Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky, of Russia. In the beginning, the animals are excited by Ma jor’s talk of rebellion against Mr. Jones and through Orwell’s objective point of view, the same feeling of insurrection is passed on to the audience. As the pigs weave an intricate web of lies and scandal, the reader gets the sense that not all is well in the same way the animals do. The difference between the animals and ourselves lies in intelligence. The author deliberately makes the characters dumber than the average person, allowing us to see through the deception of the pigs, without the use of a third person omniscient viewpoint. Symbolically, Animal Farm itself is supposed to represent Russia and the Soviet Union under Communist control. The farm in today’s world, being a small, self-sustaining entity may relate to current conditions in North Korea. It seems that Kim Jong-il, like the pigs, is much more equal than his subjects. Kim and Napoleon seem to share the paranoia of being attacked by more powerful rivals, and both it seems, have a desire to keep their respective nations in the dark. The ENR is an advanced EMR, which unlike EMR only gave information about a specific visit, the ENR gives information of the previous medical records. The pressure of having nurses attending to fewer patients has not been welcomed by the nursing industry as there has not been proper mechanisms of training that would see the government revising their regulation for the number of centers that should offer training to student nurses. The government regulates the number of programs that are to be offered in each institution that offers training to nurses (Catalano 2015). The regulations call for individual centers to have some standard measures and facilities to be enabled to enroll certain numbers of nursing students. This is always a challenge as the government, in this case, plays the double standard of wanting to improve the health sector without increasing medical centers where training takes place. The nurse-patient ratio reduction, in the end, becomes a mirage (Guzys Petrie2013). The government in this regard will do more than just having to increase the number of students in the nursing profession but also offer incentives regarding scholarship or grants to individuals who proceed for specialized training in primary health care. Keisha Brent October 18, 2016 Digital Literacies 3100 Response to Complaint Letter Mrs. Smith used both good and bad rhetorical strategies to support her argument against both the Eq uity Group and Mavinworks , LLC in her co mplaint letter. She used inductive reasoning, when she implicated her exact problems with the company appraiser and provided specific evidence backing the issue she had with the original appraisal and the revised one. Considering the company did not only make a mistake once but twice. Overlooking simple things such as the number of rooms and listing add-ons to the house that doesn't exist, gives the reader a clear example of careless mistakes the appraiser made; lacking professionalism. Mrs. Smith made a comment saying she could understand why the appraiser wasn't able to secure a good sale due to the atypical lot size, she used a comparing and contrasting strategy to explain why. She compared her personal experience in working in construction and how appraisers are conservative with their opinions when the formula is not simple. But, in contrast she stated that the appraiser still supposed to accurately evaluate the property. Which almost come across as self-contradiction to her argument against the appraiser, making her argument a bit weak because there is no way to accurately rate an atypical space. But, it also supports her argument because she explain that she know how things could get in that field from personal experience. Another rhetorical strategy I noticed in the letter that stuck out was the circular argument. Mrs. Smith kept restatin g the same issues throughout the letter rather than actually addressing the problem at hand, sort of came across as ranting. Also she got a bit side tracked when she begin to tell why her and her husband liked the home. Although, you could see the connection she tried to make between the house value then and now it was a bit off topic as far as the actual appraisal complaint. Lastly, I like how Mrs. Smith made a few sarcastic remarks about how long the company been in business and not being able to simply tell whether or not a home has a fireplace, making her argument a bit clever. She also ended her letter with an either/or strategy, which oversimplifies her argument by reducing it to only two choices. Those two choices was for her and her husband to receive a refund or she would contact the Better Business Bureau and post on social media sites regarding the company displ easing services. Almost making it seem as if she was purposing a threat to the company which could be good or bad, but she cleaned it up nicely by stating she would be contacting a lawyer to gain counsel. Doing just that letter the equity group know she was serious about the issue and didn't mind pressing the issue legally. All in all the rhetorical strategies Mrs. Smith used in the letter were a bold choice. I say this because she took a risk with her choice of words and examples both supporting her argument and some made it weak as well. The main thing I may have done differently would be to include more about the appraiser services. For instance was there any other problems or disagreements about the appraisal considering it was a huge amount difference, the 3 rd party consultants would need to know more about the issue. Other than that I probably would have kept the either/or approach to solve the problem being that the company did make the same mistakes twice and clearly didn't take the revised appraisal serious.
